Hello everyone!
This is my second English blog post this month.
(→Check here for my past English blog post)
Today’s topic is how to improve your English speaking skills. It can be a big challenge for most English learners in the beginning—it was for me too (and sometimes still is!).
Here are a few tips to help you start practicing:
-
Learn and use words to express how you felt, such as surprised, sad, happy, etc.
-
Explain why or when you felt that way.
Let’s look at some examples from a real-life situation.
I attended a special workshop involving theatre and play this weekend. The guest workshop leaders were from Mexico and Argentina, so we had some opportunities to communicate in English. As we moved through different exercises, we shared our experiences verbally.
I used the “feeling + reason/timing” format, like this:
-
“I was overwhelmed when we got the tasks to talk verbally while we were focusing on movement until then.”
-
“I felt pleased when I realized I didn’t have to be anyone.”
Lovely artists turned to the inspiring workshop leaders!
Adrian and Hose!
The conversation became much richer, didn’t it?!
I hope you enjoy learning English in a fun and productive way. Good luck!
