Hi everyone! After spending my summer holidays in India, I’m finally back with an English blog post!
How’s your English learning going? Here’s a little tip: if you sometimes struggle to remember vocabulary, it helps to learn the origin of the word. Word origins are like hidden gems that make it easier to expand your vocabulary. Let’s explore one today!
The word I’d like to focus on is meditation. What does it really mean?
Actually, my meditation teacher answered this for me before I left India:
In Tibetan, the word “meditation” is translated as “gom,” which means “to get used to” or “to become accustomed to.” Through the practice of meditation, we become familiar with the goodness and kindness that already exist within us.
Now, let’s take a look at some words that share the same root as meditation:
-
medical
-
medicine
-
remedy
-
remediable
Do you notice something in common? Yes—doctors! All of these words are connected to the idea of caring for and restoring someone to a positive state.
I’ve been practicing meditation for nearly a year now, and I truly feel that meditation can also bring your mind and character into a more positive state.
While in India; I woke up at 5am and started from meditation!
